Tokyo Show Debuts Super Engine
For the first time ever on the Asian continent, the Scuderi engine was on display for the press and public. The Tokyo Motor Show, which runs through Dec. 11, was the venue for the cutaway version of the revolutionary piece of technology. Not technically an alternative fuel device, the Scuderi does boast some of the best emissions numbers and fuel efficiency ratings in the world.
Large Efficiency Gains
Conventional gasoline engines use one cylinder for both compression and combustion, whereas the Scuderi divides that work between two separate chambers. In addition, while most engines compress and ignite fuel on a two-stroke cycle, the new device works on every stroke of the crankshaft. As a result, immense improvements in efficiency are achieved. A turbocharged version of the Scuderi reaches even higher efficiency levels due to its use of smaller cylinder units, and the resulting conservation of energy.
Spokespersons for the Scuderi Group, developers of the engine, are quick to point out the enormous diversity of the motor, which can run on virtually any kind of common fuel, and is able to propel cars, trucks, planes, boats, and just about any mode of transport under the sun. Though no test models have been built, accurate computer simulations predict that modified Scuderi engines would reach 65 mpg and emit a lower amount of CO2, on the order of 20 percent less than most modern vehicles.
Is This The Future?
Some industry experts look to the Scuderi as a technology of huge promise, notably because of its wide application and its ability to reduce carbon emissions for vehicles that burn all kinds of fuels. The prestigious Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas, has performed much of the testing and research on the Scuderi engine. The Scuderi Group itself is based in Massachusetts, with corporate presence in Japan and Germany. So far, the creators of the process have gathered more than $85 million in investment funding for the engine’s collective knowledge base of 500-plus patents.

Mr. Bell,
Then why isn’t it in a car? Did you talk to anyone at SWRI? What did they say?
Brian: For the same reason that many other types of advanced engines are not yet in cars; millions more $$ needed for working prototypes, testing, etc. At this point it’s basically a concept engine that shows promise.
invested in scuderi five years ago, still waiting for a prototype to be built. co has done many shows to this day i would think that 2/3 million could be used to build 0ne engine and put in a car of choice and prove to everyone who has invested in scuderi that the concept works and then maybe the oems of automobile companies will be more inclined to step up and make a commitment to scuderi.
Hi Vince,
Unfortunately, my comment has not been released by myperfectautomobile. Therein I gave an explanation why Scuderi does not publish their prototype results…
Ok, my comment has now appeared.
Vince, you need to be more positive…there is a RUNNING prototype at SWRI. Running since June’09. Check the Scuderi Blog for enginerunning.
Scuderi is and will be the next generation of the latest technology in engine developement. Look out world, these guys are your new 21st century Henry Ford. Come on IPO.
Hi Val,
There is no reason to expect this. Look at Scuderi’s simulated consumption figures in http://www.scuderigroup.com/assets/Documents/English-Docs/scuderi-engine-data-sheet-110408-2.pdf.
The natural aspirated (NA) engine achieves a figure of 269 g/kWh, knowing that a conventional gasoline engine achieves 240…250 g/kWh, and the latter are MEASURED values. I wonder how Scuderi can claim such improvements at the view of this.
Hi Vince,
Hi Jammer,
Hi Mr. Bell,
Scuderi’s dyno results could be found here: http://www.ukintpress-conferences.com/conf/10ex_conf/pdfs/Day_1_10_Stephen_Scuderi.pdf.
Note, that this PDF-file could not be found on Scuderi’s official website.
And if you look at page 18, where simulation is compared to measurements, you will understand the reason. There is a huge difference between expected and obtained restults.
seems to be very quiet, is no news good news? or are all of the investors waiting with baited breath.
Thanks for checking. Just performing some site upgrades and enhances! Stay tuned!
Either the Engine Has Problems and investors are being duped or Scuderi is bed with the oil companies-delaying a technology that could hurt the price per barrel .
maybe it’s time for the investors to ask for a meeting?
Vince,
Tired,
I’m with you. How much information are we entitled to is my question. Certainly more than this. Seems like they had all sorts of great news to give us when they were in the raise, but now there’s nothing. Don’t get me started….frustrating.
Anything yet?
