KleenSpeed CEO, Tim Collins, took the wraps off the company’s newest creation, the KAR electric vehicle, at the San Francisco Auto Show on Nov. 21. Having brought the product to this point, KleenSpeed is open to interested manufacturers who wish to produce the prototype as a passenger car. The diminutive 2-seater sports a small suggested price tag of $9,995 and boasts 150 miles per charge. So far, the pairing of a modest price and generous range has not been offered by any carmaker. One way the price is kept so low is with a leased battery pack, which by most estimates would be approximately $175 per month.
The following video link explores the inside and outside of the prototype of the KAR electric vehicle. Without narration, the close-up film footage will give you an idea of what KleenSpeed does, and the high quality of its output. As much of the recent media has mentioned, anyone who wants to start an EV production company could look to KleenSpeed for all the basic ingredients, including a prototype EV and component suppliers to get the ball rolling. Since the company does the up-front design and engineering work itself, a hard-working entrepreneur could literally pick up at the point of production and marketing. Who knows, the right candidate might become the next Elon Musk or a modern day Henry Ford.
