Rolls Royce Phantom

Fans of clean diesel vehicles will have to look elsewhere for high-end luxury choices, according to an internal survey done by the makers of Rolls-Royce cars. After tinkering with, and then discarding, the idea of an electric Rolls a few years back, the ultra-luxury automaker asked its loyal owners how they would react to a diesel Rolls. According to spokespersons for RR, the voting was nearly unanimous. The Rolls crowd has no taste for diesel, and the idea has been nixed.

Before the company broke into several different units in the early 1970s, Rolls Royce was known not only for its fine cars, but also for airplane engines, tractors, and countless specialty vehicles. In the video below, you get a rare glimpse of a diesel Rolls Royce that actually saw the light of day. It was not a passenger car, however, but a Scammel Explorer with a RR Eagle diesel engine. Rarities today, the Explorer in the footage below is merely going through its daily work routine, looking something like a Hummer on steroids.

Rolls Royce Green Cars

Rolls-Royce owners are famous for being meticulous about their cars. Surveys show that many Rolls owners do indeed have electric, hybrid, and diesel cars among their personal fleets. In fact, executives at RR have made it clear that the classic car will not offer an SUV model either. While many of the world’s luxury brands do offer SUVs, Rolls-Royce will remain as it is.

Some second-hand Rolls-Royce cars have made it to the conversion market as diesels, natural gas cars, and even an EV or two. However, the chances are remote that RR will be offering any alternative fuel models in the near future.
