An Escalade hybrid waiting for Elvis

The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, had impeccable taste in automobiles. Considering what he liked back in the day, people often wonder what El might be driving now, if he were around to see all the cool alternative vehicles available. Elvis was a trendsetter, no doubt about it, so it is a sure bet he would combine his old taste for Cadillacs and sports cars with his well-known concern for the environment.

We fully realize that many folks say the King is alive, no ‘if’ about it. In fact, some emails we have received here at MyPerfectAutomobile list a few Elvis sightings. One fellow claims to have seen EP cruising down a back road in a Nissan Leaf. A woman swears she saw Elvis at a fast-food drive-thru in a customized Chevy Volt, complete with a day-glow purple paint job and a personalized license plate that read, “EPsAliv.”

In any case, we know that Elvis loved Florida, thus would certainly have been incognito at the South Florida International Auto Show in 2008, checking out the debut of the Cadillac Escalade hybrid, which went on sale as a 2009 model for $74,085, a pittance for the King. Our guess is that he bought two of them. The powerful 6-liter V8 reaches 60 mph in just over 8 seconds, which is darn quick for a large vehicle like the Escalade. Cadillac reports that about one-quarter of all Escalades sold are hybrid versions. There are also various flex-fuel models of the car, in addition to the standard gasoline and hybrid offerings.

When the 2007 Super bowl wanted to give a cool prize to the game’s MVP, they handed the keys to a brand new Escalade hybrid to that day’s star, Eli Manning.

An obvious Elvis choice, the Tesla Model S

We know that Elvis preferred to keep several cars in addition to his treasured Cadillacs, and those were usually quite sporty rides, like the King’s Mercedes Benz 600, his BMW 507, and the famous Stutz Blackhawk, a one-of-a-kind custom job done specifically for Mr. Presley. Today, it is pretty obvious that Elvis’s backup set of wheels would be a sleek, rockin’ Tesla Model S. The flashy EV would be perfect for El to take on midnight pizza runs through the streets of L.A. When it comes to music legends, cars are important. Ask Arnold, or Justin, or Fifty Cent. What the heck, ask Elvis Presley the next time you see him driving around town.

If you want to drive what the King of Rock and Roll might be driving, check out the official website for the ultra-cool Cadillac Escalade hybrid, a car that no one will ever “return to sender.”
http://www.cadillac.com/escalade-hybrid-suv.html

For more information about the Elvis-worthy Tesla S, see that company’s official website for the car:
http://www.teslamotors.com/models

And no, the S does not stand for ‘suede.’

One of the major differences in how electric vehicles are perceived by the world around them compared with gasoline-powered vehicles is the sounds they make. For large cars that are visually impressive, this is less of an issue, but when smaller vehicles are completely silent it can introduce an extra challenge in safely driving on the road.

Just as the sound of the idling cars help vision-impaired pedestrians make their way, so does sound assist your fellow drivers to be aware of your location.

Again, with a larger vehicle, it is not as much of an issue. But what about motorcycles and scooters?

In vehicles like these, let’s just say their crash test safety ratings aren’t the most encouraging, as there is no protective cabin, and the driver is essentially completely exposed.

So how to solve this problem, and yet be able to ride a zero-emissions scooter or motorcycle, while remaining as safe and one can on this mode of transportation?

Well, some electric vehicles employ robotic and electronic generated sounds, which are at times annoying.

Domino’s pizza, however, had a different idea. Just recently hitting the streets in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the Domino’s pizza delivery scooter is all-electric, but not all silent. With the introduction of a human-generated engine sound, complete with gear shifts, this scooter is not so quiet. And for more bang for the buck, Domino’s added in “Domino’s Pizza” throughout the audio, making it safer for the driver with the added perk of being advertising for the company.

As you can see in this video, the nearby bicyclists and pedestrians definitely do not overlook this new addition to Domino’s fleet.

In fact, should the idea prove popular, you may start seeing, or rather hearing, these scooters in more areas of the world. Keep your ears peeled!

10 Best Superbowl Car Commercials 2012

I love car commercials. They are what make people fall in love with vehicles. Everything from the music, the actors, the dialogue, it all contributes to what, and how we view a vehicle. Some are humorous, others are more serious, throwing around big words like horsepower and torque. Most of the buzz, however, is leaning toward the Super Bowl car commercials. There are always good car ads lined up for the Super Bowl, but this year’s crop is going to be memorable for a long time.

So with all that commercial cash being spent by the likes of Honda, Audi, GM, Hyundai, Suzuki, Toyota, etc, it’s clear automakers are hoping to spur some major interest in their respective brand and cars. Will they be successful? That’s for you to decide, but thankfully we have compiled some of the more anticipated Superbowl car commercials for your viewing pleasure:

10. Chevy Sonic – Stunt Anthem

New car commercials air on TV on a daily basis. Owning and driving a car is not only a mere necessity but it is often a great pleasure, maybe even a hobby for some. Unfortunately, buying a car can be a tedious process – but not for these guys:

9. The Dog Strikes Back – Volkswagen

It placed fourth on a list of 50 all-time best Super Bowl car commercials compiled, giving VW a total of two all-timers — as many as all the other automakers combined. (Its other honoree, 2001′s ” Big Day ,” finished 19th).

VW may only sell one-fifth as many cars and trucks as Chevrolet, but when it comes to car commercials it runs well ahead of the pack in popularity and buzz without any bombast or boasting. Take last year’s Super Bowl spot, “The Force.” It showed a young boy no taller than a tailpipe in a Darth Vader costume unsuccessfully testing his supernatural powers until he fires up the family’s new Passat (with an assist from his keyfob-holding father).

8. Performance Basketball – Bridgestone

Funny car commercials have run in the Super Bowl before, and not just in recent years (remember the Volkswagen GTI ad from a while back in which the car gets stuck in a tree?). But this year, the automakers seem to be tripping all over each other to garner the most laughs and the most buzz.

7. Happy Grad – Chevy

The most remarkable thing about this spot is that it was a contest entry, and therefor we presume was made with no budget to speak of whatsoever. He did an amazing job:

6. Reinvented – Toyota Camry

5. A Dream Car. For Real Life – Kia Optima

4. 2012 – Chevy Silverado

3. Transactions – Acura

2. Matthew’s Day Off – Honda

This is a bit of a Love-Hate commercial – some audience members love/hate it because they were hoping for a Ferris Bueller Sequel which dropped their expectations.

However it was a brilliant concept and probably will spur a sequel to one of my favorite movies of all time:

1. It’s Halftime in America – Chrysler

The Super Bowl is an American tradition. You may watch it for the game, for the commercials, or simply as a way to spend time with family and friends. But as you dig into that pile of chicken wings, tray of nachos or bowl of chili, keep a look out for the big game changers. You might have something new to talk about at the office come Monday morning when all the “quarterbacks” come out. Like this one. Makes me want to change Chevy’s logo to “Chrysler Runs Deep”…

Top 10 Superbowl Car Commercial Ads

Is Super Bowl money well spent for any of the automakers? The answer appears to be yes. The broadcast provides an opportunity to reach an enormously wide audience — more than 100 million people — that is ideal if you have an equally-wide message to get across. It does seem odd to see $50,000 cars sold in the same space as beer, soft-drinks, and snack foods, but this is an audience of predominantly young men who are famously difficult to reach with most traditional media. One ad expert compared the reach of a Super Bowl ad to 250 ordinary TV commercials.

How Bob T starts his day! (Watch the video below)

It’s not easy being the owner of the top “Go To” website on the internet that specializes in the new automotive technologies. Especially, when there are such a large number of other enterprises trying to do the same thing. Well, not really the same. Most others have many differences of what they are trying to achieve and actually can be quite confusing or misleading.

Bobs emphasis, from the beginning, is on providing the consumer with enough information to make up their own mind as to “if” they should make a change, and if so, “what’ would constitute “their” Perfect Automobile! The one that suits their individual needs for travel. Most of us spend a significant amount of time in our cars. Don’t we want it to be valuable, comfortable and fun?

Thats not really Bob, but he did find it and wanted to “share”.

It really has nothing to do with EV/Hybrid/Alt Fuel, or educating the viewers about the “New Automotive Technology” that is taking hold of the industry and the public interest, yet it may inspire interest to “stay tuned” to Bobs Blogs. As you just found out, he has a surprise around every corner. He absolutely loves people and progress.

Bob has a large following of readers that have shown interest in his viewpoints of Tesla, Fisker, Jaguar, Toyota brands and all other makes and models of what has been presented in the LA and Detroit Auto shows!

Your comments are appreciated on all the articles and videos we proudly produce.

Thanks for being there!
